Analysis of this IELTS 9.0 writing

Well, let me reiterate, please watch the IELTS Trend Writing Tutorial to have the best understanding of this.

Introduction

This is a LINE CHART, obviously. And the information shown here is “the average carbon dioxide emisions per person”, which is…countable O__O!! There are four countries “The UK, Sweden, Italy, and Spain”.And finally, the time, 1977 đến 2017. Oh, don’t forget the measurements: TONS (tonnes – British English).

Overview

There are two countries with decreasing emissions (The UK và Sweden) and two with inverse direction. Hm, remember to put them in the General Trend. Now we need one more COMPARISON POINT. You should have at least a point of comparing the items (the emissions of four countries). There are plenty:

  • The UK has the most number of emissions
  • Or you can mention the least number of emissions in Spain
  • And of course, you can talk about the fastest growth rate (in the emissions) of Italy.

However, in this figure, do you see that the emissions are…stablizing? In the last decade, it occurs to me that all of them are stablizing, intersecting one another at around 5~8 tons. Also, during this period, there weren’t many changes in the emissions, were there?

Body

Let’s start with The UK and Sweden. Do you see that they are decreasing in a significant manner?? Well, except from the period from 77 to 87. Don’t forget to mention their speed! Especially the fact that Sweden’s is even faster than The UK’s.

And in that they are both upward trends, I’ll put them in a same paragraph.

Italy and Spain, on the other hand, are decreasing, apart of the last ten years.

OKay! Enough analyzing! Let’s read the model!

IELTS Writing Task 1 – Trend  Band 9.0

Introduction

The average number of C02 emissions emitted by individuals in the UK, Sweden, Italy, and Spain within a forty-year period from 1967 to 2007 is depicted vividly in the given line chart, the figures being mentioned in tons.

Overview

In general, whilst the amount of emissions in the UK and Sweden experienced downward trends, that of Spain and Italy, on the contrary, were in inverse proportion to their counterparts. Another point worth mentioning is that albeit developing in different manners, the emissions were, in fact, showing a sign of stabilizing between 5 to 8 tons.

Body

Regarding the emissions in the UK, regardless of a negligible rise from 1977 to 1987 from roughly 11 to approximately 11.2 – a record high – the amount decreased significantly by almost 2.2 in the thirty consecutive years. Although in a more dramatic manner, Sweden experienced the same trend, remarkably cutting down their C02 emissions from about 10.5 to only 5 during the period despite a rather sharp increase from 1977 to 1987 by 2.

In contradistinction, the number of emissions in Italy and Spain witnessed upward developments during the first 30 years, surging from above 4.3 to just below 8 and from around 1 up to 5.7, respectively. Nonetheless, there was virtually no change occurring in the last ten-year period in both the two countries’ emissions as Italy’s levelled off until 2017 and Spain’s gradually grew to approximately 5.9.
